In Durham, family-run Italian places are busiest on weekend evenings and around holidays, when reservations or call-ahead seating are worth it. BYOB is common at smaller restaurants in some states, with a modest corkage fee or none at all; the listing or a quick call will tell you. Wing-and-pizza shops across North Carolina do most of their business by delivery and price wings by the piece or in fixed counts, with sauce heat adjustable on request. Catering trays, party pizzas and sheet pies need a day's notice at most places, and more around big game days.
Hours are published for 6 days a week. On most of those days it is open 5β9:30 pm. Note that it does not open on Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (919) 294-8247. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, mothersandsonsnc.com.
Customers rate it 4.5 out of 5 on Google across 968 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded italian restaurants in Durham.
Durham is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Durham follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Great overall experience. The setting was very intimate, staff was very welcoming and knowledgeable. This was my first time so I got all the information about specials and their vast menu choices. The beet salad was delicious and so was my entree, the Eggplant Parmesan. I would absolutely be back to try their other selections.

The speed that I moved Mothers and Sons Trattoria from "Want to go" to my "Favorites" section was lightning fast! We have never been here before today. And I'm so happy that we came. Isaac was our server and he didn't miss a single beat. He was extremely attentive, was very fun and funny, and made a fantastic recommendations. He and Alicia were just wonderful with everything they informed us about and the way they kept on top of everything. The food was, of course a complete bonus. Neither of us expected it to be that amazing! My boyfriend had the Italian steak and I had the Cacchio de Pepe. That was actually the best steak that either of us have had in the state of North Carolina, and my pasta was super creamy and cheesy! We also had the Italian rice balls and mozzarella and tomatoes as an appetizer and those were fantastic. You have to make sure that you get the chef's seasoned butter with the bread, it is definitely worth it! He also had the zeppole and cappuccino for dessert and I had the Fernet as an after dinner drink. We cannot wait to come back!

I had a wonderful experience at Mothers & Sons Trattoria and would absolutely return the next time Iβm in Durham. The restaurant itself is beautifulβrustic, warm, and incredibly inviting. The menu was packed with tempting bruschettas, house-made pastas, and entrΓ©es, making it very difficult to decide what to order. My friend wasnβt particularly hungry, but I definitely was, so I ordered a few things to sample. The burrata and tomato bruschetta was outstanding. The bread was warm and perfectly crisp, while the burrata and tomatoes were fresh and bursting with flavor. I also ordered the Tagliatelle al RagΓΉ, and it was fantastic. The homemade pasta was perfectly cooked, and the ragΓΉ was rich, flavorful, and comforting. My friend ordered the Paccheri Cacio e Pepe, and after stealing a few bites, I can confidently say it was equally delicious. The sauce was light, creamy, and beautifully balanced, and the pasta itself was cooked to perfection. For dessert, we shared cannoli filled with pistachio and chocolate cream, which were a wonderful ending to the meal. The dirty martini was also very well made. A special shoutout to our server, Alicia, who was an absolute superstar. She was i

I have mixed feelings about this restaurant because on one hand I felt the food was great - delicious cocktails, handmade pasta, amazing pana cottaβ¦BUT the servers were almost comically unfriendly. From the moment we sat down, it felt like they actively did not want us there. When I asked about the drink special, the server jerked her thumb backwards at a sign that said βask your server about our spritz specialβ lol We were here for a business dinner and as soon as we left, all we could talk about was what felt like a weirdly hostile environment for what should be a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. I think an attitude adjustment would have made this experience much more enjoyable, because as I said, the food was actually pretty great.
